Artficat I--Revision for Special Needs Children

1.Ben has low vision and as a result has difficulty reading printed text. He needs documents to be magnified greatly in order for him to be able to read them, or he can have the documents read to him.

In order for me to meet the needs of Ben I would have to magnify the activities that I will do in the classroom. I will first give the students a PowerPoint over the projector and screen. I would hope that this will be magnified enough for him but if it isn't I will use the magnifier in Windows so that he is able to see te information clearly. So on the next day, I wanted to use a video to review with them on what they had learned the previous with music and shapes. Instead of them watching this video individually, I will adjust and show the video over the projector so that I can adjust the size of the video so that Ben is able to receive the information as well as the other students. After two days of reviewing with a PowerPoint and a short video, I will then let the students do the activities that I have found on the computer individually. So I will personal assist Ben by putting the activities again in the magnifier so that he is able to use the activity to the best of his ability. I could give Ben some other activities to do, but as a teacher I don't want any of my students to feel left out.

One of the classroom activities that I have prepared is the students will make Shape FlashCards. So I will actually explained first to my class that some of us need more attention then others. I would then let Ben do his ShapeFlashCards on PowerPoint. If he uses PowerPoint he will be able to enlarge the font however big he wants to. I wanted to use another PowerPoint as a review for the students which I will use a projector as a resource. Instead of just letting Ben take the Quiz on the computer, as a treat I will let all of the students take the Quiz that I have made for the classroom.

Productivity Reflection

Throughout this W200 course, I have been introduced to many tools that will help not only me as the teacher but my students as well. Commenting each other's blog posts is also good for your students productivity. Instead of students having to read each others papers and write on their partners paper, they can simply use blogger to comment on each other's papers. This is efficient because the students are able to save time by not having to write by hand but simply type and publish their comments. I would see this as effective because students are being introduced more and more to technology. So it alwasy good when do schoolwork with an activity that students enjoy on their own time.

Another great productivity tool is the google documents. This creates different types of reports and papers such as templates, brochures, research papers, etc. This particular tool saves students time when they are able to do the work at home and collaborate with other students with out having to meet up or see each other face to face. Also they are not only able to collaborate with other students in their classroom but also share their documents with other people outside of their classroom. This is effective for students because they are able work with students outside of the classroom using technology. They are able to comment and give feedback on each other's work and also chat with each other explaining their comments on each other's work.

Production Evaluation
- Deadra Taylor, Kelsey Jane Deckard, Lauren Anderson,Shane May-
Trees of Indiana Brochure-
Justify
Grade level: 3
Science 3.1.2 Participate in different types of guided scientific investigations, such as observing objects and events and collecting specimens for analysis.
Science 3.1.4 Discuss the results of investigations and consider the explanations of others.

Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.

The benefits include:
Individual responsibility- each group member is responsible for a contribution
Group responsibility- they must have communication and cooperation
Planning, Critical thinking, Creativity- they have to plan ahead the information they want to include in the brochure and use their creativity to apply their critical thinking
Strong communication skills- they must communicate with each other and also use their brochure to communicate information about trees
Decision making skills- they must decide what to put in the brochure

Disadvantages are:
They might not feel comfortable using the computer.
Groups might not get along- they could be a distraction instead of a support system.- Instruct
We would do a demonstration on a large screen in the computer lab so that students may follow along step by step in the use of a program such as Microsoft Publisher. We would also give them a copy of these directions for their later use, as well as a copy of the rubric to ensure that they are aware of and can meet the criteria.
We would provide students with access to the information they need about trees to create the brochure- available books, pictures, and links to helpful websites.
We would need the use of a computer lab with a teacher computer, projector screen, and student computers. Additionally, we would require library books, internet access, and digital photos of trees.-
Evaluate
We would use the evaluation tool called Rubistar, an online rubric. We would evaluate them on the following criteria: Working with others, Quality of work, Contributions, Focus on the task, Problem-solving, and Attitude.

Here is the link to the rubric: http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=1707001

IN Standard Justification

http://dc.doe.in.gov/Standards/AcademicStandards/StandardSearch.aspx

This particular lesson plan is not in need of a change.

1.) The students are actually learning about different citizens and their different roles in society. This particular lesson focuses on the "The Day of the Dead" which is celebrated in Mexico, Central America, and South America.

2.) They are first going to watch a movie about this particular day and actually get a visual instead of listening to the teacher lecture which can be boring. This fact is related to efficiency. This will save a lot of time in the classroom.

3.) Also there is a lot of Internet sources that are available so the teacher can show different photographs and also different stories about the information. This is also related to effectiveness because not only do the students watch the movie but they actually get to see different photographs and read about different stories about The Day of the Dead. This could also be an visual-art field trip but you are able to stay in the classroom.

4.) Also they are now going to make their own visual art of different types of "altars" used to celebrate the Day of the Dead. There is a specific list of artifacts that the students are able to make. This gives them an hands-on approach to the lessson. This is related to enhancement because they are now doing things on their own and are teaching themselves with the knowledge from what they learn from the video and other sources.
